Well then! Its been a while. I thought I write a little something to update for those of you who are interested.
As of this past month, I have decided to take a year or so off from school. Now, before you berate me, let me tell you my reasons.
- AAU has raised tuition almost $100 per unit, making the cost of school go from aprox. $16,000/yr to aprox $20,000/yr, which is ridiculous, and not the only reason I have become increaslingly annoyed with the Academy. Don't get me wrong, I have learned a lot in the past year and a half, but somethings about AAU are just a fucking scam.
- Working and going to school at the same time and never being sure you will have enough money to pay rent each month, let alone other bills, is stressful and not fun, making school and work a chore and not fun, making life not fun, making me wonder why the fuck im doing it.
- I want to make art for myself not for school or work. I miss it.
- I am going to start playing the violin again.
- I want to get out of Dodge. I have been living in Sonoma County since I was 4, and I need a change. My boyfriend is moving to SLO in the fall to go to Cal Poly....opportunity for change, anyone??
Now of course there are a few other reasons, and of course I will still work, and take classes if I feel like it, but fuck. Im 20. I have lots of time to figure out what I want to do. I know its not the status quo, but I think I have a unique perspective that not everyone has: my roomate is 38, getting her masters in biology. She didnt go to college untill she was 30. She did lots of really fullfiling things and fun things before then. Now she is totally focused and very sure about what she wants to do. My boyfriend is starting at a junior at Cal Poly in the fall. He is 27, he had about 9 years of working, classes, fun things before he decided on a major, and now he is very excited and driven and passionate about what he is studying. I dont think I know many 18-21 year old who really know what they want to do. Its a waste if my time and money to go to school if Im not enjoying it. So this is why I have decided to do waht I am going to do. Mostly reasons 1 & 2 though.
So enough about my future, whats happening in my life now???
Well, Clem and I went to San Luis Obispo this past weekend and visited the campus and drove around all the neighborhoods and surrounding towns. Its very nice there. Warmer then here, but similar in geographical features and climate and flora and fauna. Definitely livable. Not to mention Paso Robles is near (read: wine wine wine!).
I have taken on a huge project at work which Im pretty excited about. Aside from the usual label designs etc, I am building a new website for them! I can only show you screen shots since its going to be a password protected website for employees, sales people, and trade partners only. Very excited.
School has been good, but as I have already said, its just been too much having such a demanding job and taking demanding classes too. I will keep posting my projects.
